When it comes to using hair masks and deep conditioners I usually avoid them as they’re “too much work”. OK, I’m lazy when it comes to my hair. Leave it in for the recommended time and then rinse off. I just don’t have the time for that. Though they’re nice and can be beneficial. When I saw Amika had an overnight hair mask I had to try it! So is the Amika dream routine overnight hydration a dream? Let’s find out!
The packaging is a gorgeous blue glass pump package and the product itself feels lightweight and has a light scent to it that I can’t quite figure out. I’m terrible with scents and can hardly smell, sorry. Dream Routine is formulated without any parabens, silicone, phthalate, SLS + SLES, or mineral oil. And if you have color-treated hair it is color-safe and won’t fade your color.
It does contain ingredients such as blue/green algae that provide vitamins to the hair and amino acids, bio-fermented coconut water adds hydration to the hair, hyaluronic acid attracts moisture, and polyglutamic acid promotes moisture retention. All hair-loving ingredients!
Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Review
To give some background of my hair currently, it isn’t in terrible health. I haven’t colored it in many years (though that will be changing soon). However, because of how hard my water is and because I do put heat on my hair (even though I use a heat protectant) my hair is quite dry and because my hair naturally is wavy it has some frizz.
The dream routine treatment is for all hair types, especially for anyone experiencing dry hair. Hello, it’s me! The claims are it boosts moisture for up to 72 hrs, lasts up to 4 washes, reduces breakage by 26%, and hair is 3x more hydrated by morning. Love those claims!
Did I mention Amika Dream routine is an overnight hair mask that doesn’t need to be washed out? That sounds like my dream mask, indeed!
The featured photo of this post is my before. To be quite honest, I much prefer the before to the after photos.
How Do You Use Dream Routine Overnight?
Depending on your hair’s length and thickness dispense anywhere between 1-4 pumps into the palm of your hand. And apply on damp or dry hair from mid-lengths to ends. Because my hair is thick and mid-length I applied 4 pumps and combed it through my damp hair and went to sleep.
The next morning upon awakening I noticed my hair did not feel 3x more hydrated. Quite the opposite in fact, my hair felt like straw. It was much drier and while it appeared fuller it looked so dull! On top of that, because of how much drier my hair felt it also tangled much easier.
How Often Should You Use Amika Overnight?
If you wash your hair once a week you can use this roughly once a month since the results are said to last up to 4 washes. However, using this at least once a week is fine. If your hair needs more hydration, go for it!
Overall, I’m sad this product didn’t work for me. I had such high hopes and wanted to love this product, but it did the complete opposite of its claims. Though it didn’t work for me it can work for you.
