Whenever the brand Makeup By Mario releases something new, there’s always hype surrounding the products. It’s safe to say Makeup By Mario is a pretty good brand overall. The SurrealSkin foundation is one of my favorite releases from last year. And adding to the complexion lineup there are now concealers! So of course, I had to try the Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Awakening concealer! My hopes were set relatively high for this product.
The concealer comes in 0.2 fl oz (5.8 ml) glass packaging with a white cap, which is the MBM packaging we know and love. Very well made. The doe foot applicator is thin and doesn’t deposit a heavy layer of product like some others can.
Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Awakening Concealer Review (For Dry Skin)
The claims of the concealer are that it’s a medium buildable formula to conceal even the darkest circles. Using a lift & lock™ technology the caffiene-infused concealer claims to depuff, tighten, and smooth. The self-setting formula is said to lock it all in and create a lifted and awakened look. Oh, and it’s long-wearing and crease-proof.
The concealer comes in 22 shades and I chose the shade 160. I went down a shade for a more brightening effect, but my “perfect” shade would be 180.

How Does It Last Throughout The Day?
As I mentioned, I love the MBM foundation. So my hopes for the concealer were pretty high. The formula is lightweight and it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. You need a little for it to go a long way, this is especially true if you have dry skin.
The concealer dries down pretty quickly, so you need to work fast. I had some difficulty blending because of how fast it dried down. I had set only my right eye to compare how well it sets itself.

Here are two photos showing the wear time of the concealer after five hours. The photo in the center is my left eye without any setting, while the right photo is my right eye after applying setting powder. The first photo is immediately after application.
From my experience, you do not need to set this concealer! It truly is self-setting! My fine lines looked even more emphasized on my right eye where I had set versus my left eye which honestly looked pretty good.
I will say this, it lasts great throughout the day. Although, it lasted well throughout the day my eyes looked dry and cakey. And it looked worse on the side where I had set with powder.
Where To Buy
This concealer has many great things about it. I wanted to love it. But with my dry skin, it did nothing for me. I wore it many times after but it just never looked right on me. I love that it’s self-setting but it’s just not worth it.
Because it’s formulated without any parabens, mineral oil, oxybenzone, sulfates SLS & SLES, and other not-so-good ingredients it would be good for acne-prone skin. Especially, because the coverage is phenomenal. If you’ve tried this concealer I’d love to know your thoughts!
The Makeup by Mario SurrealSkin Awakening concealer retails for $29.00 (USD) and is available for at Sephora and Makeup By Mario’s website.
