Winter is here and our skincare needs must pivot from lightweight to ultra-hydrating! Especially, if you live in a dry climate. As the months grow colder our skin loses more water retention. And our showers get hotter (who wants to be cold and jump into a lukewarm shower?). Today, we’re going to focus on body care for winter! It often gets neglected, I get it. But we’re going to spread the love and I’m going to be sharing some winter skincare tips to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized this winter!
Living in the mountains of New York my skin over the years has gotten drier and drier. That along with our hard water – it’s misery. Naturally, I’m always on the hunt for ways to keep my skin looking and feeling smooth and hydrated.
Winter Skincare Tips To Keep Your Body Hydrated!

Short Warm Showers
There’s nothing more satisfying than coming home from a long day’s work, and enjoying a hot relaxing shower! It’s relaxing and feels so good! However, it’s great to keep your showers to a minimum of 5min or less for Winter especially.
Showering once a day or every other day if you suffer from severely dry skin or have a skin condition like eczema can be beneficial. They’re 85% of states that have hard water, If you happen to live in a state with hard water invest in a water softener attachment if possible! Hard water is a culprit of dry skin and brittle hair – making your winter skin worse than normal! And lastly, use a gentle shower gel – a small amount goes such a long way!
Exfoliate Less Often
I used to tend to exfoliate twice a week no matter the season. The more you exfoliate the better, so I thought. However, I never realized how over-exfoliating can increase dryness. During colder months keep exfoliation down to a minimum of once or twice a month at most!
Invest In A Humidifier
Having a humidifier is unbelievably helpful! I was skeptical, however, after reading about the many benefits of a humidifier it was well worth the investment! I’ve noticed how my skin has been less itchy and more hydrated! Humidifiers can range anywhere from $30 – $1,000. There’s one for every budget! But the one I own is midrange and I absolutely love it!
Use A Thick Moisturizer & Never Skip SPF!
I suffer from dry skin year-round (I also have really hard water). I also have sensitive skin and am a night-time shower person. We lose more water at night than we do during the day.
Use a thick moisturizer on damp skin to lock in all the extra moisture! I love Josie Maran’s Body Butter and have used it for years!
Lastly, never forget to apply SPF! It helps to keep in the moisture and after all, you’re putting in a lot of hard work to protect your skin – don’t let the rays add damage to it! This includes your hands and any other visible skin!
